Meet the Media: Illyshia Parker, Birmingham Business Journal

Welcome to Peritus PR’s “Meet the Media” series, a Q&A where we chat all things journalism, reporting, media landscape, and PR...while having a little fun, too. This MTM feature is all about Illyshia Parker, CRE reporter for Birmingham Business Journal.

Q: What stories do you find the most interesting to write?

A: Commercial real estate (CRE) is a perfect fit for me because I love writing about new and expanding businesses. There is always a story behind businesses’ growth and change, and I enjoy telling that story. Mixed-use developments and the emerging build-for-rent sectors are two areas specifically that have interested me lately.

Q: What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?

A: One of the most rewarding things about being a writer is when a reader approaches you to tell you they enjoyed your article. I love being able to share Birmingham’s unique stories and connect a reader with information they are excited about.

Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Birmingham?

A: Mexican food is my go-to, and Birmingham has a variety of options that pair great food with great drinks. Too many places to choose just one!

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your limited free time?

A: I really enjoy exploring, whether that is traveling to a new place or hiking trails around Alabama.

Q: What is a fun fact about you?

A: I’m a spoken word artist and work with kids.

Q: If you were to participate in a Peritus Book Club, what book would you suggest?

A: White Bull by Elizabeth Hughey – co-founder and programming director of Desert Island Supply Co. (DISCO) in Birmingham

Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring writer?

A: Read and write often, stay in the know with what is going on and meet as many people as you can.

Our PUBLISHED by PERITUS takeaway is this:
