2019 Reflection: Shining Brighter Than Ever

Every year, there seems to be a central theme that resonates with our team. When reflecting on 2019, it became clear that Peritus needed to shine brighter to better fulfill the firm’s mission in connecting our communities.

This spark began last January with the team celebrating six years since opening our firm. We launched our new website that serves as stronger visible reflection of Peritus’ capabilities and culture. Following the launch, our team left our retreat weekend determined to shine a light on central issues, read inspiring by books that change lives, advocate for meaningful causes and seek inspiration from local thought leaders.

Through our community and student outreach efforts, we helped visionary organizations and future leaders better connect. We presented to classes, mentored students and hosted agency tours for universities across the state. To support our industry commitment, we organized a happy hour for rising star communications professionals, and hosted a “what they don’t teach you in school” workshop on job search tips.

Our philanthropic footprint extended to leading media trainings for organizations like the United Way of Central Alabama and the Council on Substance Abuse, organizing a career panel with Urban Avenues, and supporting initiatives like Jones Valley Teaching Farm and The Market at Pepper Place.

The year also brought personal growth as we tackled new professional development goals, expanded our leadership skills and attended innovative conferences. We welcomed our newest team member (and first MSU bulldog), Eliza Heidelberg, whose diverse experience and communications skillset helps our team continue to thrive.

Our forward-thinking clients allowed us to be a part of some inspiring projects, including Protective Stadium, Blooming Birmingham, Pepper Place’s Entertainment District designation and Powell Steam Plant. Through our trusted media relationships, we secured covers in Business Alabama and features in Forbes, Health and Inc.

As Alabama trailblazers, we continued to forge paths at the intersection of brands and issues to create impact. Some highlights include empowering our peers by breaking down the legislative session (check out this year’s here), sharing best practices from our Crisis Corner Instagram series, sharpening tactical skills through our AP Style Tuesday Trials, and advocating for prison reform, women’s issues, urban redevelopment, and innovation and technology.

From Birmingham to the Gulf Coast, we are shining brighter than ever and remain steadfast in our mission - connecting our communities for a brighter Alabama.

Our PUBLISHED by Peritus takeaway is this:

It is easy for organizations to allocate their resources and time on countless efforts that seem meaningful and important, but lose impact without direction. As our team kicks off 2020, we shift our direction to live out a year of intention, and look forward to sharing more focused community experiences with you throughout the year.
